Ombra Del Sole Nature's Holistic Protection

Benedetta's Ombra Del Sole, Nature's Holistic ProtectionSo what is more toxic, the sun or the sun products? Sunscreens are recognized as a critical part of our topical ointment wardrobe. We understand that the sun and the constant destruction of our atmosphere's protective ozone, leaves us vulnerable to increased risks of degenerative skin and autoimmune diseases, and of course, cancer.

Esthetically, the sun's ravaging damage on our largest organ, the skin, takes it toll on our youth, resulting in spotting and pre-mature wrinkling. To make matters worse, the over use of laser, chemical, and daily retinol or glycolic treatments only further photo-toxicity.

Prevention, therefore, is recommended by conventional thought as well as holistic, alternative fundamentals. How this is achieved is where Benedetta as a Skin Care company takes an alternative view.

The intense dogma drummed into us by doctors and product commercials warn us of a terrible fate. We have all been told to diligently use our sunscreens, but what most people don't know is that "SPF" only refers to the amount of time you can stay in the sun before burning, therefore an SPF of 10 simply means you can stay out 10 times longer.

The FDA states that there are two types of UV radiation, UVA and UVB. Both contribute to skin damage, including skin cancer. There are no "safe" UV rays. But the SPF numbering system was devised as a guide to protect against sunburn, which is caused mostly by UVB. *1 It has been reported, however, that the use of sunscreens does not protect against melanoma and seems to increase the duration of recreational sun exposure. *2

There are many who believe that common 'active' ingredients found in sunscreens and sun blocks can be toxic, harmful and may even destroy healthy skin cells.

Octyl methoxycinnamate (OMC) was found to kill mice cells even at low doses in a study by Norwegian scientists. Dr. Christensen's study found half the cells treated with OMC died, compared with fewer than 10 percent in a control experiment. When researchers shone a lamp for two hours to simulate midday sunshine, more cells died, suggesting the reaction between OMC and sunlight created an effect that was twice as toxic as the chemical alone. *3

Burning aside, what should be of great concern to all of us is the free-radical damage caused by exposure to UVR. Mineral and chemical sun products do not offer 100% protection. Furthermore it is suggested that they may increase free-radical damage as well as cellular degeneration, affecting our overall immune system. It is only logical that we include a formula rich in natural anti-oxidants.

Kerry Hanson, a postdoctoral research scientist at the University of Illinois, studied the effects of ultraviolet radiation with regard to free radicals and skin damage. Her findings concluded that the stratum corneum -- the skin's main protective barrier against environmental assault -- generated a tremendous number of free radicals when exposed to ultraviolet light. "These free radicals caused considerable damage to both the cytoplasm and the lipid matrix," she said. "The cytoplasm of the lower epidermis was also dramatically damaged." Furthermore while typical sunscreens offer no protection against free radical damage, the addition of anti-oxidants could significantly reduce the generation of free radicals. *4

Benedetta is proud to introduce Ombra Del Sole, an alternative approach to sun care. This revolutionary two-step process consists of a Sun Hydrator and Sun Filter. Step #1, the Sun Hydrator Spray is a proprietary blend of Hydrosols, Aloe Vera and Olive Juice Extract, all organic. Research shows Olive Extract as the most powerful anti-oxidant we know of to date. The Hydrator is the perfect spray for after sun should you over indulge and find yourself with sunburn. Step #2, the Sun Filter Oil is a gorgeous blend of nourishing oils and waxes that have been proven to filter and protect us from the sun. Many of the oils in this formula have been shown to work as a natural SPF of 15.* It is vitally important to protect ourselves with highly active, natural anti-oxidants externally (as well as internally) to combat the free radical damage caused by the sun, elements and aging. ** Ombra Del Sole is the perfect answer for those who can't use sunscreens due to sensitivities or simply prefer not to.

From all of the information available to us, the wisest approach to sun care is good common sense. Although exposure to the sun is important for Vitamin D synthesis and general health, it does not mean that we should spend hours basking in the mid-day sun, with or without an SPF. Daily use of Ombra Del Sole will offer you protection and nourishment at a deeper cellular level in the fight against free radical damage. If you find yourself in the sun all day, particularly if you are in the water, use Benedetta's Ombra Del Sole as a base, then apply a good mineral block with a minimal amount of chemicals; giving you added protection.

Application: Spray with the Sun Hydrator then apply a small amount of Sun Filter. Use enough product for even coverage. The combination of the two products should leave your skin silky soft, but not greasy.
